This fact came from my interests in science and space, with the galaxies rich colors I knew I could find some kind of fact that I would enjoy depicting. I wanted to depict the black hole as it is in the original image, fiery and orange with a sharp contrast in the center. The black hole, which also doubles as the 'O' in Bouman, subtly pulls the letters towards itself. The nebulous purple cloud gives the piece the third color it needed, as well as give contrast to the type and outward flame effects.

My first finishes tried using the type as a device to lure you to the black hole. Going from particle and colored type to a more solid color orange was the first major change I did. The type was still too organic looking. I was fighting with making my type look like it was being warped and pulled by the black hole, yet solid and scientific looking. I compromised in my final and kept the effect of the words being sucked by the black hole.
