Of Mice and Men is a book that I chose to redesign for my illustrative project. I wanted to create a more whimsical approach through the flowiness of the lines which emphasizes the hair and the critters coming out which are the rabbit, mouse, and dog. All of these are symbolization for the book. If you’ve ever read Of Mice and Men, you’ll understand why I chose the symbols that I did. The reasoning for the colors was to give the book a dark undertone because the story is very dark and I wanted to show that through the cover.

I wanted the inside of the book to also follow a similar whimsical approach.

From research that I’ve done on older books, many older books have the text laid out and then an illustration. I wanted to follow the same approach. So here I have the text, the illustration, and then more text. With the illustrations, I drew them in only black outlines so that it doesn’t distract the reader from the text. I also used a crosshatching style because I felt that it fit the age of the book.
