Sketches & Concept Development
Before starting a full piece, I always begin with multiple sketches to figure out what I like. Sometimes, I go the extra mile and edit them digitally to find the right colors and composition.
"Reclamation"
The sketches above are pencil on regular computer paper. I scanned them with my phone and edited on photoshop. In this series of sketches, I was exploring the concentration of my AP Drawing portfolio. I chose the title "Reclamation" with allusion to life, death, and what is entangled in between.

The middle sketch best portrays life. I wanted to show my fascination with plants and its significance in the roots of human culture. The subject is entangled with nature, even in her death. I took inspiration from Ophelia.
The sketch on the left displays life after death. I took inspiration from grecian statues and described the entanglement of heaven and earth in the intertwining hands.
The last sketch is also based on a statue titled "Amore Americano." It displays entanglement between humans through a romantic embrace.
"Ada dan Tiada"
These sketches were made when I was developing a concept for the cover of a poem book. The illustrated person is one of the authors. I drew his face in different angles because the book was meant to be an exposition of him. The different angles show the different perspectives we can see him in. It signifies transparency.
"Odd Fears"
I tried something I don't normally draw- the weird and creepy. I've definitely explored such concepts but I rarely turn them into finished works. This pen-inked drawing was also scanned with my phone and edited on photoshop. I played with different ways to shade and show texture. I like how the edit showed the process of my drawing.
"Mata Uang"
This was my first time trying gouache. I mixed some parts with white acrylic. It was fun to experiment with media.
"Birdie"
This is a digital render done as a study of the reference picture in the left. It's still a work in progress. I chose a bird to paint because I've never painted feathers before and wanted to try it.
