Daniel Ticktum F2 helmet design

Alongside Dia Design we’ve developed the new helmet livery for Daniel Ticktum, driver of DAMS Racing in Formula 2 and Williams Driver Academy for the 2020 season. After weeks of revisions and drafts we've came to a final crazy and unique design that takes inspirations from the "dazzle" graphics, originally used on WWI battle ships to cover their surfaces and disorient the observers. Later this technique was adopted by the automotive industry for a similar function: to better hide the new shapes of their prototypes.

Daniel has always had crazy helmets in his career, this one is no exception. The colors comprehend the light and dark blue of the French team alongside a very bright fluo pink, gold details and black and white as a background layer. The aim was to create a unique piece of design to stand out in the F2 grid.

Inspirations
World War I battle ships were painted with a dazzle camouflage texture to hide on which direction and how fast they were going, creating unique optical illusions. The liveries consisted in big dissonant stripes with very contrasting colors, such as black and white. Later, this particular technique inspired the automotive industry.
