Clayton Blackman's profile

Library and LRT Station

The site is located between military facilities along the water and an up-incoming residential district. It also borders a main thoroughfare into Halifax. When approaching the building, it is elevated on plinths
to address the street level until it dips down into the sloped green space and bioswale. It draws the viewer into the library along a suspension bridge or under the belly of the building into the public space. The program combines contrasting activities- noisy and kinetic vs. static and contemplative. The structure is a series of frames and thresholds within a transparent glazed skin that accentuates a train’s kinetic movement through the building.
