Daisy By Marc Jacobs Packaging Project

In doing my research, I found perfume packaging to be historically unique yet still serving the common purpose of displaying the bottle in the most creative and functional way possible. Each brand I came across has their own way of doing this, and Marc Jacobs’s Daisy perfume line seems to fall under the simple, classy, and girly style. For being such a well known brand, I was surprised to see that they have yet to experiment with different shapes and styles of packaging, and stick with a rectangular box for every new line. I wanted to remain true to their classy style but add to the unboxing effect by creating a flower-like package. The user experience of opening the petals makes it feel as if the flower is blooming. Having a smaller product on a foam pedestal in the center adds to the simplicity of the design and elevates the display of the perfume bottle. The red ribbon strung between the flaps also indicates the brand’s feminine side, and the act of untying and tying the bow reminds me of lacing dresses or hair ribbons, and I found this to be the most functional way to put the box back together for future use.

Continuing to stick to Marc Jacobs’s girly aesthetic, I designed a print that I felt mimicked their style in a unique way. Taking inspiration from 60’s flower prints, I decided to go with a vibrant red and light pink color scheme that compliments and contrasts each other nicely. The repetition of their iconic daisy symbol around the exterior also adds to the branding of the product. The interior of this package is largely inspired by beauty brand Glossier’s minimal aesthetic as they pair bright colors and pastels to pull off a modern and sleek look. The red foam pedestal purposefully matches the bottle to add to the simplicity of the design and makes it the focal point of the flower, similar to how the center of a daisy contrasts its petals. I also chose to keep the petals white to allude to the original Daisy Perfume created back in 2007.
