Field Guide

A second year University project titled 'Counterfeit'.

We had to produce a publication that explored the theme 'counterfeit'.

To avoid the ideas some of my fellow classmates were exploring such as counterfeit money or drugs, I chose to make something completely different that expressed something about my own interests.

I was inspired/disgusted by a newspaper article at the time that made claims that meat from cloned animals had made it onto supermarket shelves. That’s where the 'counterfeit' comes in.

Field Guide is a look into the future that explores the idea that the world has experienced a nuclear war and that all life has nearly been wiped out. Imagine growing up in a nuclear fallout shelter underground, then one day you want to leave and explore the wastes of the world. Questions arise, What is out there? What do you need to survive? Field guide is an illustrated publication that would be handed out to people when they want to leave the safety of the shelter. The guide will educate them on issues of cloning, aid them in identifying certain species and their habits, and help them to concoct recipes and remedies.

The publication is all screen-printed and hand-made to give it a feel like it's been handmade from only a few available resources, left from the old world.

So your out in the wastes and you come across a Polar Bear carcass. There are more polar bears in the surrounding area so you need to arm yourself pretty quick.
This section shows you how to make 'Polar Bear Paw Gauntlets'. You can even decorate it with rooster feathers to add more value.

Complications during the cloning process have left some animals with two, sometimes three heads.
The Rooster can usually be found grazing on little morsels around shrubby areas.
