DETROIT MADE
Reinventing Detroit's Vibrant Past & Investing in its Future
Detroit Made is a collection of photographic images shot in Detroit and neighboring communities representing the essence of a city in transformation.

My interest in Detroit is personal. I have fond memories of my parents’ stories of a once vibrant and fascinating city – my mother riding the streetcar alone to get to the Masonic Temple for dance lessons, the notorious or perhaps infamous nuns at St. An- thony’s Catholic School, my father’s family grocery store on the City’s east side where they fed many people on credit during the depression. I began photographing the city intending to capture the remains of its rich and diverse past. As I started on this road, my intention evolved and I have, in this book attempted to create a visual narrative of a city’s reinvention.

Detroit Made is a visual representation of a city and its committed and creative inhabitants – it is about a will and desire to reinvent. Detroit is a continually changing landscape of endings, survival and new beginnings. While “Detroit Made” includes some of the city’s shattered remains my goal is to represent the city as a whole from its resident street dwellers to the emerging artists, innovative businesses and notable landmarks that make Detroit an inspiring place.
