Museum of Modern Art (MOCA) Cleveland

MOCA Cleveland
Cleveland, Ohio

Anchoring the Uptown District and being 44% larger than the former rented space that MOCA Cleveland used to reside in, this 34,000-square-foot structure demonstrates that a museum expansion need not be large in scale to be ambitious in all respects. Designed by Farshid Moussavi, principal of Farshid Moussavi Architecture (FMA) of London, along with Westlake Reed Leskosky (headquartered in Cleveland) this is truly a unique building. Due to the museum itself being a non-collecting institution, the building's design shows flexibility for the ever changing exhibition areas. The MOCA Cleveland is four-stories tall and rises 60 feet from a hexagonal base to a square top, where the primary 6,000 square foot gallery is. The exterior of the building is clad primarily in mirror-finish black Rimex stainless steel, reflecting the urban surroundings, changing in appearance with difference in light and weather.
