Bikes 4 Life

Bikes 4 Life is a global community initiative that is dedicated to providing bicycles to people, particularly youth, who are underprivileged, aimed at helping the most vulnerable, isolated and neglected groups within society. It started with the idea to raise bikes for displaced people, former child soldiers and victims of war in Northern Uganda. We are now starting to also raise bikes for marginalized indigenous communities in Central Australia and on a local level throughout Melbourne, for disadvantaged youth and families most in need.
Project Overview

At Bikes 4 Life we are trying to raise as many bicycles as we can to send to the most isolated, vulnerable and war-ravaged districts in Northern Uganda (Gulu, Pader and Kitgum) who have been affected by a brutal 22 year long war and neglected by the outside world. The people that live in these districts are largely displaced and are subject to extreme poverty, mental illness, disease, famine and political instability. From the camps basic health care, education, food and water is largely inaccessible. However with bicycles as a mode of transport, civilians will have an increased chance at surviving…. accessing food, water, hospitals and eventually recovering from the war.

Through bicycles we aim to create transport, which will allow vital access to and from the remote locations of the camps, to make basic needs such as water, food, medical assistance and schools accessible. We are trying to help revive a neglected people, promoting community outreach and peace building.

Bicycles and the ease of transport to locations they provide have the potential to save the lives of men, women and children that are dying everyday due to preventable diseases. Bicycles are also beneficial in terms of the economic recovery, aiding in areas such as agriculture. By helping the people of the North move forward in the post-war period, we hope to also promote peace and recovery, while helping to strengthen community relationships, values and structures.

In Africa, Bikes Save Lives!
Riva Media Launch A Success

Our Media Launch at Riva St. Kilda last week was a huge success and our hard work paid off! Tottie Goldsmith and Dipper were amazing hosts and the artists, performers and dancers were kept everybody entertained for the whole day. The models and AFL footballers who took to the stage to model clothes for the auction were a huge hit, and we thank them dearly for taking tine out of their busy schedules in support of our event. Junior Masterchef Finalist Cassidy cooked up a great BBQ and she was also so kind as to donate her own bicycle to the cause!

We are now one step closer to getting a shipment of bikes to Africa and that is very exciting for us here, and the needy communities on the ground in Northern Uganda. Every contribution so far has made a difference. Thank you!

For those who supported us along the way we thank you. Without our valued supporters, sponsors and partners none of this would be possible. Ongoing support from the community is needed to take this project to the next level! We are still in need of funds, bikes, bike parts, repair kits and tools so people dig deep, ask your family and friends and if you would like to get further involved with Bikes 4 Life please contact us.

I hope everybody enjoyed the event and please keep checking in for Bikes 4 Life news and updates. If you not a fan of our facebook page yet please join by following the link: http://www.facebook.com/bikes4lifeorg.

Sponsors and Supporters

To keep Bikes 4 Life alive and running we need help from the wider community. In recent months, the team at Bikes 4 Life have worked tirelessly to harness extensive local support, establish a number community partnerships while also building on important relationships with key industry players to ensure the word is out there on the street. Bikes 4 Life is out there and getting the desired amount of attention, and with each day’s feat we know we are well on our way. It is great to see our project admired and be a part of it as it grows, however, such development brings rise to new needs. If we are to grow we need to be watered and left in the sun to blossom.
Bikes 4 Life is currently seeking product sponsorship (in kind donations) and financial aid by the way of corporate sponsorship from local and / or national organizations. If you are interested in discussing partnership or sponsorship opportunities with us at Bikes 4 Life, please contact Ebony Butler (Head Organizer) or Nadia Lotter (Project Manager).
