In the year 1743, Sir Milton Barlowe, a renown anthropologist, zoologist and artist, traveled to a small island located near the Gulf of Mexico. During his stay, he found a mysterious cult forgotten by time and their devotion towards a miraculous ocean deity they called "The Blue Mother". The locals performed orgiastic rituals dedicated to the Sea Goddess in front of Barlowe's eyes. According to their primitive belief, she gave fish and marine treasures in exchange but a terrible prophecy would come true if the pagan celebrations were ever interrupted.
It is unknown if Barlowe came to this depiction based upon art made by the locals of the Island or if it is inspired by his own artistic imagination. The image first appeared in his book "Ancient Rituals from the Pacific".
