Meeting across the Spine:
Series Three of Book Jackets

This series of book jackets was designed based on the style and aesthetics of six well-known designers: Morteza Momayyez, Reza Abedini, and Bijan Sayfouri (from Iran), Milton Glaser and Herb Lubalin (from the U.S), and Stefan Sagmeister (from Austria). I paired the designers with similar styles, color palette, or timeframe together and made the final designs based on my own aesthetics. I borrowed one color of each designer’s national flag and used them as stripes on top of the spine to create a system that unifies the series together.

English books are read from left to right and Farsi books from right to left. Therefore, the book jackets have two covers with both designers on each. At the end, the most important aspect of American and Iranian cultures, as I see it, their respective languages, meet across the spine.
