Fuel ordering experience for Lufthansa pilots

Lufthansa Pilots - Helping pilots become more sustainable within the fuel ordering process
UX Design Award | Concept
Juli 2019

5000 Lufthansa pilots need to determine how much fuel they need for a flight. Pilots often take too much fuel due to vague data presentation.
They want to be more efficient but don’t want to feel less safe, so pushing savings will work counterproductive.

Now, the challenge was adapting behavior in the fuel ordering process for Lufthansa Group pilots in a world in which they can rely on the provided data and are enabled to become more precise in addition to their experience.

To adjust motivation, ability and triggers the approach was to understand, observe and test different ideas through a sprint-based process. Breaking old habits by building trust in new ways of fuel ordering was the solution for a new way of working. Resulting in a huge environmental impact by saving tons of burned kerosine every week resulting in reducing CO2 emissions significantly
