UNFINISHED LEADS: a transmedia narrative for RSF

Brief:

The NGO Reporters Without Borders or RSF (Reporters Sans Frontières) wants to create a transmedia campaign to attract more supporters and donators. The main theme of this transmedia campaign is: the importance of journalism for democracy sustainability in European countries.
Our proposal:

Unfinished Leads, a transmedia mini docu-series presented by Reporters Without Borders. Five episodes concerning five journalists who fought to speak truth to power, until they were forcibly silenced.

The aim is to raise awareness on these five particular cases, while portraying a realistic approach to what RSF can do to support journalism and democracy.

The main platforms are the docu-series online for the main plot, a podcast on Spotify for further exploring the five journalists and their work, an original interactive app for those who really want to dive deep into the narrative, and social conversations with the audience on Twitter.
Above: promotional poster, sinopsis, and specs for the docu-series.

Below: screenshots from the app's interface, showing a few examples of its interactivity.
Art direction

Due to the storyline and themes, a few of our aesthetic and visual references were Tom McCarthy's Spotlight (2015), and David Dufresne and Philippe Brault's Prison Valley (2009).

A dusty and moody color palette to set the ambiance for a dark narrative; with black, white, and red as the accent colour for the promotional posters and brochures. These colours are also featured throughout the app and connect with the RSF logo.
