Tallinn 2034 is a joint urban planning project made by 5th-year students of TalTech University.

Description
The city of Tallinn was divided into 23 equal sections, on which students worked individually. The 1st task was to identify shortcomings in urban planning and make a proposal to improve urban space.
The 2nd task was to create a “fantasy city”. Students, uniting in 2 on the borders of their plots, were supposed to create a completely new district without taking into account existing urban space.

Plot №22
The project, which is presented here, is a 22rd site located on the outskirts of Lasnamäe district near the Lennart Meri airport and the technological town called Ülemiste city.
At the time of work on the project, this site was in a very deplorable state consisting of disjoined industrial areas with poorly developed logistics.

Proposals for the site:
1. Railway reorganization: unused rails remaining from the railway yard were eliminated and a new passenger terminal was designed (plot  №21).
2. Creation of a multifunctional residential area on the site of the railway yard.
3. Extention of the Ülemiste city and the creation of a transitional buffer zone between Ülemiste city, the airport and the industrial areas on the periphery of the site.
4. Development of a new network of roads, an extension of tram tracks that would connect all new areas on the site with the existing network of public transport.

Fantasy city concept:
Creation of a multi-functional business center on an elongated site between the railway and Peterburi tee highway, that connects this site with the city center.
In the central part of the site, the density and height of the buildings are maximum, at the borders of the site buildings have 5-7 floors, which fits into the existing urban environment.
From the left side, the fantasy city is connected to an existing shopping center and a designed passenger terminal through the square. On the other side there is designed an expo center with adjoining additional pavilions, that could be used for international exhibitions, conferences and fairs.
