Sidekicks​​​​​​​

Sidekicks is an oil on canvas illustration that captures an idealised harmony between the human being and animals. It is a scientific fact that humans are animals, but through many millennia we came to view ourselves as unique due to perceived intellectual superiority, craftsmanship, advanced socialisation and more. However, this notion of "uniqueness" is wrong and may have been what lead to our over-exploitation of natural resources and cruelty to wildlife. This illustration reintroduces humans to nature from the vantage point of a modern Jamaican child. The reason for doing so is children are innocent and have yet to become exposed to some of the horrifying truths about our modern society. Doing so allows us to idealistically turn the mind of a child towards caring for nature and viewing its inhabitants as equals to us rather than beneath us. Sidekicks will likely belong to a series of other illustrations called "Child's Play" that will tackle this human-nature dynamic from the perspective of children.
