I was born in 1978 on the family farm of 125 years near Yorkton, Saskatchewan. I credit my prairie upbringing for developing my vision, spatial sense and cultivating an understanding of how to work within the Earth’s cycles. My photographs are provoked by a deep curiousity and appreciation for architectural structures and industrial processes.
Photography gives me reason to constantly explore. I am grateful for all of my clients past, present and future for giving me such opportunites to experience this great planet.
When taking photographs, time seems to dissolve. I become aware of everything around me. I notice the clouds; the direction they are moving, the position of the sun or moon; their hightlights and shadow, all of the colors and their shades. I position my self at a particular point in space and time that best harness the energy within the scene; often on the ground but I’m fond of the air. Once the composition is fine tuned I take a breath and open the shutter. I consciously visualize the light entering the lens, traveling through the aperture into the camera, onto the ccd sensor and recorded on its circuits. By attempting to connect to the scene on this atomic level, I feel as though I am nurturing a relationship with the light. By acknowledging the beauty in front of me, I become one with the scene and connect to something infinitely larger than myself.
