No Place Like Home

This photo series is a view on the modern human life. It sprouted from my fascination with modern human life and our accustomization to the comforts of it. In our safe homes we have everything we desire and tend to ignore the impact we have on our surroundings. Don't we forget what our real home is? Are we still connected to nature and thus ourselves?

Wealth and technological advances have never been as prevalent as in present times. In our safe homes we have everything we desire, and all the comforts we think are needed. However, many of us can go an entire day without touching soil, breathing fresh air or seeing an animal. Little of what we interact with in our daily lives reminds us of the natural world it’s all built upon.

In this series, modern life’s routines are stripped of their familiar surroundings and replaced entirely with scenes of wilderness. This juxtaposition reveals an unsettling irony: Much of our daily behaviour is considered to be natural, but why does an image of our regular existence look so alien when set against nature?

This project sprouted from my fascination with modern human life and our accustomization to the comforts of it. My goal was to capture contrast and harmony in a single photo, as a metaphor for the present position of humans. On the one hand our lives are so well sequestered from their earthly context, and on the other hand this distanciation won’t stop us from being a part of the circle of life as living organisms.

The subjects are photographed in European nature, sometimes requiring hour-long hikes, making the creation of this series a way to connect with nature and myself, too.
