Geometria Produttiva
Urban Design Competition - Verbania (ITA)

The project rises on a strategic vision, which, as a backbone in the whole area, allows it to evolve and adapt in different possible scenarios. The new Ex Acetati must include new functions, integrating the needs of different stakeholders and including new opportunities for public-private partnerships. The goal is to overcome functional homogeneity and isolation; to create a brand of the entire production park; to promote a development based on sustainable solutions, on the circular economy and co-production systems. The transition to a circular economy does not mean only adjustments aimed at reducing the negative impacts of the linear economy. Rather, it created a systemic change to build long-term resilience, generate commercial and economic opportunities and provide environmental and social benefits. The production space intersects with green spaces, for both manufacturing and agricultural use and public use. These spaces act both as a filter between the different areas of the area and as a buffer towards the other production areas. The project integrates the needs of different stakeholders and includes new opportunities for public-private partnerships. The goal is to overcome functional homogeneity and isolation, aiming at longterm
resilience, which provides environmental and social benefits. The area is a production densifier, which intersects with cultural, research, leisure and training spaces. A grid generates a large-scale connection system that welds the different morphological patterns of Verbania. This matrix provides spatial alternatives for the Industry 4.0 model, based on green co-production and circular and sharing economy.

The new space is a void that creates a space of respect for the monumental building oof the Church of Santa Madonna di
Campagna, a privileged point of view, and pedestrian access to the new area. The visitor unexpectedly finds himself in front of a historical monument, which he is free to discover from different angles. This area is considered one of the strategic points: in this sense, one corner a new exhibition building, a “folie”, is a bridge between history and industry, sacrality and production. Its shape enhances the architectural complexity of the Church and whose materiality introduces the visitor to the productive reality of the area.
