Charging Dock Backplates

Backplates for the charging dock
The charging dock usually mounts onto the wall. The medical tablet can easily be placed on the charging dock and it will charge without attaching any wires. The exploded view shows the previous and current version of the charging dock.
The assignment:
Multiple clients requested charging docks with VESA mounting. With this change the charging dock can be placed in more strategic places for cliënts, opening the doors for more entertainment functions. The cliënts had slightly different requests, so we decided to produce custom steel backplates, which was both cheaper and better than injection molding given the relatively low amount of orders.
University Medical Centre Utrecht
This hospital had terminals mounted above the beds of their patients. The goal was to replace those terminals with the charging dock for our medical tablets. Patients will get access to entertainment and their patients file.

The terminal could be moved freely. The charging dock needs a lot of additional weight in order to move freely. When the tablet is taken of off the charging dock, there will be less gravitational force. If the dcking station is heavy enough, the weight of the tablet becomes insignificant for the movement of the mounting arm. The backplate has to weigh roughly 4,7kg. The backplate is shown in the images below and it works like a charm.
Helios Germany
For helios we needed something more sophisticated. The weight had to be reduced to a minimum. The arm does not move up and down. A seperate backplate was needed so the telephone system can be attached. Two connectors had to be placed into the backplate.

The images below show the current state of the product.
Clinic in Africa (version 1)
A custom backplate for our previous docking station was created. It attaches to the snap hooks on the charging dock front. After we found out that alterations had been made to the polymer fronts of the charging dock the two snap fits at the bottom were replaced with a tapped tab.

The images below show the first version of the product.
