The client had been using a self-made label for their 9 different flavours for some time. Now that they planned to expand further into the retail grocery space, they needed a more professional look that competed at the same level as comparable all-natural, vegan energy bars. 

Their loyal clientele was familiar with the existing colour coding system, so this was left intact and in fact exploited to better identify a preferred flavour quickly, even from a distance. 

Given that this is a food packaging product, nutritional labels and ingredient lists including nut caution and storage info was required to be included.

In addition to visiting multiple grocery stores to understand the competition landscape, consideration was given as to the exact packaging material: a matte look with a foil lining was decided upon in order to have both a contemporary look and longer shelf life.

Being only made with completely natural, whole foods, the bars are very simple in their ingredient list. Thus a choice was made to illustrate this simplicity with "icons" that told the consumer exactly what was contained inside the bar.

Other concepts were also presented (three in total) that took in consideration the existing logomark and necessity to appeal to a "younger" audience. The client was immediately drawn to the (ultimately) final concept. With some tweaking to the design (to change the list of features on the front; to add a colour bar to the top of the bar so that the flavour could be identified within an open-front box), the final design was selected and accepted. Print-ready files were prepared and sent to the printer. 

The design solution was elegant, made strong use of design hierarchy, and took advantage of the white space gained when moving from an adhesive label to a pre-printed package.

The client has reported that the new design had an immediate effect on sales, so much so that their ordering and fulfillment routines had to change dramatically to accommodate the uptick.
