i started by drawing the shape and size ofthe desired shield.
then glued and singed the two pliwood planks, the tension in the singes with the glue once it dryes is what' going to make it stay curved.
then i fixed any spot that was not glued enougth and cut and sanded the shield down to its desired shape.
here you can see how i overlapped the cotton layer on the front and the back of the shield (the side you see is the back).
here im adding the padding on the shield to make it more comfortable to use.
i used chrome tanned leather and a cheap pillow to do it.
this is the design i decided to paint in the shield.
and finally aded the carry straps, made of vegetable tanned leather and held in place by screws that on the other side look like large rivets.
I started this projects after watching a video about making a heater shield out of pliwood.
After seeing the potential i decided to try if it would work on a bigger shield like the kyte i ended up making. It was a simple but extremely fun project that i will make versions of in the future. As is i'm already planing to build a bucker shield.
