Our research based project was derived from an ongoing and common urban dilemma happening in the UAE, Dubai specifically. There were many complaints on the man-made lakes around Jumeirah lake towers situated in Dubai, the lakes had caused contamination & algal overgrowth duo to the still water which affected the living quality in the higher standards living area.
Our project, “The bio folded habitat” is a solution for the algae that is formed due to the lack of oxygen in the lakes, the Algae is a big part of contamination yet a big potential for generating energy.
Our Algae habitat aims to create an alternative habitat for the micro-algae growth, the habitat’s modular and compacted origami-like structure is going to expand at the first phase so the algae could get collected and attracted the cell’s membranes, The second phase would be the growth of the algae. Finally the last phase is the shrinkage of the structure and generating the electricity through the bio-catalytic cell.
