conceptually, the table is thought of as one fluid surface which flows down over the top to form the legs. the nature of the differing materials draws the eye to their contrast, however the form of the table, mainly its continuous edge, re-unites the materials making the table one. the table top, match-plates, and casting cores were all milled on a 3-axis cnc machine, allowing the smooth digital model to be divided and the combined into its final form.the intent was to cast an aluminum leg whose form would make reference to the fluid nature of the casting process. conceptually, the table is thought of as one surface which curves down to form the legs. emphasis was placed on the edge, the legs, and the transition from horizontal to vertical. to accompish this the top surface was created by flip miling birch plywood, which was later stained. the table surface, match plate, and casting cores were milled on a 3-axis cnc mill.
