A Bee In The City

Brief

Our final project required us to make individual or collaborative animations that would be
displayed during the Bangalore Annual Science Habba (BASH). The animations must comply with the theme of portraying the scale of the universe, with an array of topics to choose from, ranging from atoms to the universe itself.
Concept Note

The conflict  between bees & humans and how humans both directly and indirectly  cause
harm to bess is not very well known. Through this animation  we look through the bee’s
perspective and allow the audience a chance to empathise with them and come to understand their importance. We are using the form of poetry and rhymes to draw a contrast between what the bee is experiencing and what is being visualised. To show that to the bee, the world is a very happy place to be in comparison  to the harsh reality of the everyday actions of man; both direct and indirect.
Script

There was once a bee who lived in the city
He didn’t understand why
The other bees looked at him in pity.

He loved the tall buildings and flew above them all
He didn’t care that he was very small

He loved to fly and he loved to fly fast
He especially loved,
Chasing after the cars that rushed past.

When he felt bored, he went inside
The very tall buildings to play seek and hide

The humans inside cheered him along,
They clapped and waved when they heard his song.
‘Weeeeee’ he cried as he sped along.
He felt popular
He was most definitely the talk of the town.

And then he needed to rest a bit
On a nearby flower,
He chose to sit.
The flowers around always smelled so sweet
And after all that playing he deserved a treat.
He ate his fill in pollen and honey
Even if it did taste a little bit funny.

Once he was full he took a nap
But unfortunately for him there was no going back.
The other bees watched as their friend lay dead
If the humans had cared,
He’d be alive instead.
