Hacker News Map
This project was the winning entry from a 99designs competition, where I was asked to create a 24"x36" poster from a map of Hacker News users.
Although I had a clear vision for the final product, getting there was a bit tricky.  The only data the client provided was a Google Map, which meant that the resolution was only as high as my screen.  Not nearly big enough!  In order to create the 24"x36" inch poster, I had to piece together 22 screen shots, isolate the data points, and convert everything to vectors.  Here's what my process looked like:
Here is the original Google Map--the resolution was only as good as my screen.
I pieced together 22 screen shots in order to capture all of the data points.
After isolating the data points and converting them to vectors, I overlaid them onto a vector Mercator projection map of the world.
After a little Photoshop magic, I had a finished product!
