This is a project that I did for Color Theory Class. We were each assigned a certain Celebrity from the 1900's and we had to create a place-mat and plate design in reference to that celebrity and the art in that time period. My celebrity was Kim Novak, she was mainly famous in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The color choices and design aesthetic is all in reference to that period of time, the 1950's. This style of cartooning is called Cartoon Modern. In addition, since Hawaii became very popular the time, many cartoons and illustrations in the 50's incorporated tikis and Hawaiian attire. These Illustrations capture that essence and stay true the cartoon style and aesthetics of the 1950's.
