Encant(at)s: a cover design.

This was my first contact with design in film (of any kind). It's a very straightforward front cover for a short documentary about a flea market in the catalan city of Barcelona. The market's official name goes by 'Fira de Bellcaire' (Bellcaire's Fair), but the common folk know it as the 'Encants'.

I also thought the Encants had some sort of charm, difficult to put into words. It's a very crowded place, with old stuff everywhere. You can see a whole person's life for sale, easily. A partner ended up buying someone's drawings just to 'save them'.

This is the sort of place in which memories become products.

I mixed this idea with the name of the market, creating this documentary's final name.
Here's the official poster.
'Encantats' (pl.) is catalan for "pleased", in a 'greeting' context. Can also mean "charmed".
Kind of obvious, but it worked! It became a great starting point whenever we introduced the documentary to a film professional. It was the very first thing they read about this project. The key: simplicity and context.

It simply resonated in everyone's head.

If we didn't share the same social imaginary, it would've appeared as weak.
Risky decision!
As the director of photography, I was heavily inspired by the works of professor Morteza Katouzian's paintings and Spanish 'costumbrismo'.
The train of thought is very simple. If you're depicting reality as it is, don't overthink it. The cover's style is what it is because of that. You have the needed information to know what you're looking at (the company, the title and the main roles).

That was one of my works as a film student.
