Printmaking: Rendezvous at Phobos

Rendezvous at Phobos. Intaglio print from a copper plate (print 2 of 3).
Rendezvous at Phobos (Sapphire Haze). Relief print from the same copper plate as its intaglio print counterpart. A blend-roll technique was used to allow for a smooth gradient transitioning of two ink colors from black to blue.
The etching process. Shown here is the copper plate coated in soy-based ground and the etching needle used to etch the artwork.
Copper plate with completed artwork; ready for ink application and printing.
Completed prints. Shown here are the three-piece edition intaglio version and the one of a kind relief version.
Cosmic Daddy Energy. A fictitious energy drink idea using the Rendezvous at Phobos (Sapphire Haze) print. The energy drink name was derived from combining ideas gathered from the participating Facebook community asked to brainstorm "space and energy drink names."
Mockup of aluminum can provided by GraphicsFuel (graphicsfuel.com).
Cosmic Daddy Energy information. The back of the energy drink can features the Cosmic Daddy slogan, nutrition facts, caffeine warnings, ingredients, distribution source and origin, and a rocket-shaped UPC to further compliment the space theme of the product.
Cosmic Daddy Energy logo. A NASA-inspired font (Nasalization) was used and tweaked with serif-like edges which taper into sharp points towards the left, implying energetic movement to the right. The first letters of "Cosmic" and "Daddy" are stylized to look like crescent moons, further emphasizing the space theme. The astronaut occupying the space between "Cosmic Daddy" serves as a mascot character and implies the stem of the crescent moon D.
