Thespian Officers: Women in Power
Since being elected Historian within my school's thespian society, I came up with the idea for this shoot when asked to document this year's officers. As the votes came in and we saw our lineup was fully made up of women, I was delighted by the opportunity to not only take their portraits as every historian does, but this year come up with a theme: feminism.
In the interest of being candid, I will say that the shoot in theory was a dream, but putting it together was a nightmare. I was enrolled in college in the mornings and high school classes in the afternoon, then having theatre rehearsals every day of the week, then having different club meetings on the weekends. Needless to say, my availability was a bit nonexistent.
However, the girls were a big help by getting as much of their costumes together as possible. Still, it was still my job to provide ideas for which women the officers wanted to personify, where un-owned items could be located (and what the location's return policies were), research the women in power and what their stories were (because I also wanted this to be an opportunity to learn about the women before us), and finally, to schedule individual shoot times and execute them around everyone's schedules.
Set: my basement with white sheet and table lamp; for Catalina's, we had to improvise and do it really quick before rehearsal.
Budget: under $50
Time Span: 2 weeks
