I start from pencil sketch with an HB or 2B, then I replace the lines with a felt-pen, making some crosshatching, adding line value and defining my drawing before it goes digital.
The final step is get into Adobe Illustrator, clean the lines re-drawing everything by mouse, then placing the color. The most of the illustration has 3 tones of color.
I know that using only mouse makes the process slowly than using tablets. But I prefer the mouse instead of wacom or other tablets because of the control of the line versus illustrator brushes.
