The height and weight of the individual piece types of this chess set, which is inspired by the Melevi سَمَاع (samā‘), corresponds to their relative value in the game. Conical cavities in the pieces are filled with bismuth for heft, balance, and stability, resulting in a 34-piece set (with additional queens) weighing 1600 grams.
In addition to a black felt pad beneath the pieces, a inward-sloping bevel gives the impression of the pieces floating above the chess board like the cloak of a dervish in motion.
