Child Adoption Campaign

Child Adoption Campaign
In India, poverty, diseases like HIV AIDS, gender discrimination are few of the reasons why children are orphaned. Children (below 6 years) whose care-takers are unable to care for them can be kept at an adoption agency after following due process. A child found abandoned and whose caretakers cannot be traced, if eligible, can be declared ‘legally free for adoption’ by the Child Welfare Committee. A court-committed child can come into adoption through the Juvenile Welfare Board. Unfortunately, in India Adoption is looked upon as a societal stigma. A lot of importance is given to physical features, gender preference, colour and health of the child. Between April 2013 and March 2016, special kids accounted for just 2% of all in-country adoptions. Specially-abled children accounted for 52% of all inter-country adoptions. 7500 families are in queue for adopting half of the children, while other half possess traits undesirable according to Indian parent standards. These figures are disturbing and hence, after visiting some of the orphanages, I thought a campaign targeting at the emotional mindset of the Indian society, will create a difference. The theme for the campaign was decided as "I too need a family", from a child's perspective, as though requesting the audience for the love and affection every child deserves and needs.
