Inbloom is a montessory and day care centre at Diamond District, Old Airport Road, Bangalore that was looking for a slight makeover, taking departure from the characters of Winnie the Pooh adorning its outer portico walls, that were then old and faded out.
And that's when the traditional folk art form of Warli from Maharashtra came into picture, being a good device to depict childhood and associated activities, and also as a rustic antidote to modernism; the centre being tucked away in the green corner of the futuristic Diamond District campus.
The rough sketches of what themes would be covered on each of the sections of the outer walls came as an exciting challenge. Family life, nature and cultural activities proved to make it to the final cut.
Painted over Indian Red in White enamel paints, the Warli designs developed into small scenes depicting daily activities in an open agrigarian societal setting.
Including activities like music and dance in groups and family life gave the scene a more personal feeling of warmth, highlighting friendship, collaboration and family values, that are meant to be imparted to the tiny tots at the centre, like a gentle reminder; and a recreational piece as the design forms are simple enough to be drawn by the kids as well.
