Case Study and Translations
This work was completed as an architectural design studio assignment. It was an exercise to learn how to conduct an analysis that can distill and express the underlying concepts of an architectural project that may not be visible on the surface level. It also provided an experience of using a new tool for generating design ideas.
The analysis focused on spatial sequence (circulation and volume), spatial transitions (thresholds) and interior-exterior relationships (openings) in an existing project. The results of the analysis were to be presented as diagrams. The next step was applying verbs to those diagrams. They became not a static object of analysis, but instead an intermediary device capable of generating new architectural ideas.
Step 1: Research. Papers with analysis text and materials on the assigned project.
Step 2: Diagramming spacial sequence, spacial transitions and interior-exterior relationships. Axonometric drawings and physical model.
Step 3: Translations. Applying verbs to previously created diagram. Axonometric drawing and physical model.
