Exhibition News (a Mash Media Publication) annually host an awards ceremony dedicated to Celebrating the industry’s young talent. Late 2018 myself and the design team where asked to create a new look and feel for the event. The director & editor initially approached me to create a new logo and work form there. Below are initial creations.


Development

The event director then chose there favourite mark out of the above. I then was tasked with how we wanted to display the EN logo with the new mark. We came to the conclusion to use the EN logo like how it was previously used to tie the new & old logo together.


Branding and Advertising

We then later began working on branding for the event. Our main source of advertising for the 2019 campaign was to advertise within the Exhibition News magazine via full page adverts. Because of this we thought this would be the best place to build our branding out from. Due to the nature of the award we knew are tagged audience rather well. The EN 30under30 audience would be under 30’s who work within the industry so we knew we could make our adverts current and fun.
Below are the early concepts…


Development

Later down the line we stumbled across an image of a statue wearing some funky glasses. We then came up with the concept of combining new and old. The way we wanted to visualise this was to use statues paired with a modern look and feel.
We ended up using statues doing millennial activities such as selfies, posing or eating dishes like avocado on toast


Final look

After developing this strong concept idea of new and old the new branding quickly fell into place.

I used photoshop to manipulate images found from Unsplash & Ghetty to create the statue images. For the selfie image I also used Rotato to get the phone at an angle perfect for my mock up. Pairing this with a voice of 3 brand colours and a modern gothic font to bring the old and new together.


Joining Instructions

To invite and inform attendees of the event we sent out joining instructions prior to the event. We send these out with a personal email with the instructions as an attached digital PDF. Due to the event being held in a ping pong bar I created a new image of a statue playing the game. In a old version of the invitation I also a funny image of a statue riding a bus but sadly this never made it to the public eye.


Winners Pack

Prior to the event we also sent out winners packs. These included a printed gold foil invitation - These where created to inform winners and invite them and a +1 to the event. The back side of these included the event information and sponsors. Winners also received the winners trophy created by Lazercrystal and a bunch of ping pong balls to bring to the bar to play with after the ceremony.


Name Tags

We also created name tags to help networking at the event. Using data merge with two data basses we created two versions. One type in Tan/Ivory for the general attendees and sponsors & another type in a blue for the winners to stand out from the rest.


Social Media

We also created a few social media assets early on so that if the editor needed to make any announcements they could use a branded image and type up any copy in the posts copy that needed to be communicated easily.
