LOCAL FILIPINO COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR FIRST-EVER CHARITY VARIETY SHOW

Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church’s Filipino Community Presents A Variety Show To Raise Funds For The Parish

(Orange County, CA – September 3, 2012) The Filipino Community of Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church in Cypress, California is proud to announce “Tayo’y Magsaya! (Let’s Celebrate!),” a full-production variety show featuring the talent and culture of the local community.  A charity event for all ages, the show will be held at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center in La Palma, California on Saturday, September 22 at 6:30 PM.  All proceeds from the show will benefit the parish’s building fund.

Acts include a special musical medley by the three priests of Saint Irenaeus, singing sensations Radio For The People, Melissa Reyes, Matthew Parry-Jones, Lianna Gutierrez and Tori Berba, comedian Joseph Gelito, parody skits, hip hop dancing and authentic Philippine cultural performances.  Many of the show’s participants are long-time parishioners of Saint Irenaeus.

Filipinos make up nearly 40 percent of the parishioners at Saint Irenaeus.  Father Ven Amidar, one of the priests at the church and a proud Filipino, is the catalyst behind the idea to bring the community together for the variety show. “This is a chance to make the Filipino presence felt in the parish and to create a positive response for the calling of the parish capital campaign,” said Father Amidar.  “It is our way to share and inspire a consciousness of belonging in a Christian community.”

A show of this scale is the first of its kind for Saint Irenaeus.  “We hope this event will successfully help the parish and lead to an annual tradition of showcasing the talent in our community for many years to come,” show director Leo Arce explained. “It is a fun and entertaining way to celebrate our faith and culture for a much needed cause.”
