Data Presentation:
Distribution of Men’s Headdress, 1400–1519
I reworked a chart I had created for my Master's thesis as more or less a standalone image for historical costumers to use and share.
The data source was art images from the 12 decades covered in the study. I used form analysis methodology, similar to content analysis methodologies. For this graphic, after classifying headdress types, I correlated the images with types and decade. I then created a chart that when viewed horizontally shows what types of headdress was worn and how popular each type was in any given decade, and when viewed vertically, the duration a headdress type was worn.
I also drew all the headdress types at the top.
