A Short Guide to Chinese Typography

This project is a demonstration of Chinese typography and explanation of Chinese character forms, font styles, typesetting as well as considerations one should take when designing bilingual Latin/Chinese publications. The primary target audience is graphic designers and graphic design students, it is an educational material on a subject not discussed in western typography classes so it is good for furthering one’s design theories. Knowing my target audience were graphic designers I assumed familiarity with terms like serifs, but also knowing some would not be familiar with Chinese I established a glossary to explain terms like Big Five encoding.
