My diploma project "Allience" (concept of the game)

This is my diploma project. I decided to make concepts of characters for my own game and some illustrations for background. The idea of the game is about communication and social life between different races.

The background story of the game is that people from different countries colonized separate planets and started to make their own culture separately. Over centuries, they changed mentally and physically. They became totally new races with their own moral and social rules. However, a mysterious disaster occured in space and survivors had to go back to Earth. The player starts the game in the moment when spaceships have landed on Earth. He has to find building materials and food, discover a territory and decide how to interact and cooperate with other races. Here you can see one of screen view of the game.

I started to develop characters from scratch. I wrote down the list of features of a few nationalities and after that I tried to illustrate these words in the designs of characters.

The next step was the creation of different silhouettes for each race. After that, I also tried to make the base shape of every character in plasticine for understanding and feeling real proportions. These figurines helped me later when I worked on shadow and light. I chose specific color palette for every race which emphasizes their individual differences.
