Week 5: Colour and Identity #dvb103 #oneperday19

This week we were asked to step outside away from conventional drawing, and take a look at different methods for producing self portraits. As a warm up, I began with coloured pencils and water colours, as this weeks theme also required us to embark on a colourful  journey. The above 2 drawings consist of plain colour pencil and then water colour, drawing myself from my profile side...
Using the negative shading methods that we learnt in week one (with pencil), I used water colours to achieve this full body photo. The fern leaf indicates the scale, and the vibrancy of the water colours. I don't have red hair, but lets just pretend I do...
Playing with objects as media; a mixture of poinciana leaflets, braken fern leaves and harpulia pendiula leaves (the torn ones). Reflective of my connection nature and botanical interests.
Who doesn't enjoy a good lentil? I used these as a spur-of-the-moment media, foraging at the bottom of my pantry for something with not only colour, but a robust texture. I placed the earrings and sunglasses into the lentils as a link to the accessories that I wear every day; my close friends could confirm that I wear these accessories regularly.

Overall, using alternative medias this week allowed me to discover different means for expression, challenging at times, but overall a fun experience.
