A Human-Centred Design Story

Human-Centred Design (HCD) is crucial in our world, as its main aim is to solve social problems by helping communities to help themselves. It requires the full understanding of a problem by completing in-depth studies regarding various user needs and wants.

The One Dollar Organisation is an example of a user-centred design company, who help people who are financially disadvantaged to access basic health necessities, namely prescription eyewear. The company teaches local community members how to bend wire into frames, to conduct eye tests, and to fit lenses into these frames. This costs the user only one dollar for a pair of glasses, helping community members develop confidence, competence, and the potential to develop fully without physical impediment.
