My Bus (App) - RSA The good journey

My Bus
logo design. Icon design. Layout design. UX. Concept design.

This project was a live breif project for the RSA. This is something I conducted while in my second year of university. The breif was to choose either your comute route, or another persons, and to see what improvements can be made to that commute and what things could aid help. My concept was an app called "My bus".

Most people are on their phones while commuting on busses; I know this as this was based on my own journey, I did both primary and secondary research. I usually have an app which I would check for bus times; and this was something I was constantly using.

My concept behind this project was to create an app where you can not only seek bus information, but where it could also be social at the same time (as most people are on their phones, and this was aimed to reduce being bored while comuting). Ideally the app would give you options and as the user, you are capable of choosing what you wanted to use the app for. It could be to play games with other uses on the app, or to check updates people have made or commented about their journeys, or it could simply be to check the times of the busses or to see if the bus was empty, full or medium - with the amount of people.

home page for app. Logo designed to ressemble bus stop names. Pictogrammes for each main feature.

When on map - you can see where you are using GPS - aslo information for bus stops (in red) and ticket shops (in blue)

When clicking on a bus stop a departure board appears showing arrivals pf when the next bus is to come. (the brackets which include letters: F, M and E represent the bus being (Full) (medium) or (Empty) - the bus would include a device which would roughly count the people on there which would determine how empty or full a bus may be.

You can view the complete jounrney of your bus route - this has two options: you can view this as a list, which would include the details of that specific stop (if you need the departure times for that stop then you press on the stop you need) ... the other option would be viewing your bus route on a map.

if you are viewing bus route on map - you can zoom in to see the bus stops in more deapth, and by pressing on a stop it would lead to the departures page of that stop.

Journey planner gives you the different possible routes you can take and calculate roughly how long the journey will take you. By choosing a specific route you can then see further information for that journey.

You can view how much ticket prices are and see the balance on your oyster card.

You can sign up to a forum and start to communicate with other bus users and share experiences.

The settings page allows you to edit which features you want in this app in order it to suit your needs. Whether it be for the sake of communicating or for bus information - it is all up to you.
