Kids life jacket
Brief: Starting with the 2 existing products from the range to create a unique lifejacket for kids. The product should follow the standard and keep kids from drowning. Kids should be able to put it on by themselves, to feel comfortable during sailing, and to move easily with it. Parents should be confident while buying the product (information concerning standard and sizing should be visible/ easily accessible and understandable on the product).
For this project, I spend a lot of time analyzing competitors products and trying them with kids. I tried to see the difficulties they had to put the jackets on by themselves, and understand how they felt while in water. What is making them feel comfortable? Were they able to swim with the jacket on? etc... after a lot of testing and trying, I came to the conclusion that kids are used to wear T-Shirts and not jackets, so why not having the same concept for a lifejacket?
The collar shape was also really important, how to make kids feel at ease while in water? That collar shape, once in water gives them a cocoon feeling thanks to its 3 foam parts.
It's easy for them to put on because of the velcro that will hold the buckle while they clip it together.
I also realized that colors can help when it comes to understanding the outside and inside of the lifejacket. According to the standard, the outside had to be a color visible from far, but the inside could be any color. So I chose 2 different ones, and it worked!
We also worked on the info about sizing and standard, to simplify and make it easy to pick the right one. In store, this information is visible without touching the product, which is a real help for vendors and customers.
