Typography - 2009

The forms for this texture-typography were based in the iconic Letter From Pero Vaz de Caminha (also called Brazil's "birth certificate"), from 1500. This project aims to show the relations between graphic design and culture via elements strongly rooted in common sense and national imaginary.

Graduation project @ UEMG - Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais
Designer: Lucas Oriel (oriented by Prof. Sérgio Lemos)

The imagery for the project was completed by using some paintings by german artist Johann Moritz Rugendas. This man came to Brazil in 1821 and joined a scientific expedition in order to register people, nature and landscapes of the country. His artwork "matches" Caminha's description of Brazil, 300 years later, of an exuberant, rich and vivid place.
