Tangaroa is the god of the sea in Maori Mythology. I spent 8 months of my life in New Zealand and was fascinated by the Maori culture, language and history. This piece also reminded me of some of their art work (particularly carvings) which include many waves and swirls that reflect the sea and rivers which played a vital role in their culture and history. My intention and hope is that the wisdom of the indigenous New Zealand culture and their connection with water and the sea will be manifested and emanated through this piece.
