As my eyes glance back and forth between the drawing and the workpiece I realize the back part must come in a little more to make the piece slimmer. The strokes of the saw rasp send particles falling to the floor like soft rain showers as I carefully turn in the curve to fit harmoniously with the whole. Knowing the finishing stage will take off another millimeter or two, I must not go too far—I must allow a fatness underlying the course surface left from the rasp to remain for the smoothing step.

As I came close to finishing the piece smooth with fine sandpaper I make the decision to wax the piece rather than keeping it natural. This form has a mysterious feeling to it which I want to extend by darkening the colour and contrast in the grain.

Non-Local Movement No.5, like the others in the series is born from the deeply abstract concept of a non-physical movement, a movement outside of the directly observable field. I am inspired by topics such as subatomic entanglement and by contemplating on holistic awareness and its potential.

As falsehoods are extinguished,
the light beams brighter in its mental intensity,
the cooling purity of perception dawns upon us
as we step along together amongst this cosmic dance
of beauty and love.
