Many Brazilian cities were built over the Atlantic Forest. Amongst them, São Paulo was the one that deforested the most.Did any native trees survive this uncontrolled urbanism? Yes, 20 trees were found and named War Veterans.

Before this campaign nobody cared about this trees. They were abandoned and in terrible conditions when environmentalists found them. Today, these trees are daily visited and there’s a legal process that aims to turn them into national Heritage.
