Impromptu Project "Hey Robin would you mind coming up with something for the coaches to thank them for a great hockey season?" I look in my camera bag and I have an old Nikon SB800, reflector and Westcott icelight and stool in my car. So I have a concept for a poster and decide to do headshots of the boys after the game. I pull it off in the shower stall of the dressing room. I am so impressed with the three looks.
I wanted to blow out the background of the tiles to be consistent in design, but sometimes the SB800 did not recycle. I was getting a lot of expression and images working on the fly.
The one light (Westcott Icelight) with the black or grey background was very impressive! In hindsight, I didn't plan for the dark background. I have a lot of ideas for the next project thanks to this discovery.
Although I didn't realize how great the texture of the shower stall was until I started to edit. Sometimes the eyes just make the photo too! These boys had a little attitude for give me after thier hockey game.
I am amazed that I was able to fit 17 players and 3 coaches on a 12x18 size poster. I used some candid player action shots from the season to dress up the the seemless black background and a pop of color for team spirit!
A lot of the images for the action profile shot were very busy. I was able to extract them for the background image in the poster. It makes for a very interesting collage which adds dimension.
