National Geographic Science Festival Italy
(8th - 14th April 2019)
‘Invention' was the theme for the festival and starting point for the Italian team.    The team created key art, promotional materials and a campaign strategy to drive awareness. In one month the Italian team ran 2,000 spots across all FNG channels. Off-air promotion consisted of a print campaign in important local and national dailies, a radio campaign on local stations, and an OOH campaign consisting of billboards around Rome and posters inside universities.  The digital and social promotion used both National Geographic and FOX local platforms, as well as promotion on Auditorium Parco della Musica and scientific partner platforms.

Sky was the main media partner for the festival, covering the event in addition to interviewing high profile speakers. Sky also hosted its own panel at the event, to launch their new Sky Arte local production on Leonardo Da Vinci.   The Italian team also secured 10 scientific partners including the European Space Agency, Italian Space Agency, the Nuclear Physics National Institute and Italy's Ministry of Education.

National Geographic Science Festival was held in one of the biggest venues in Europe, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. Peripheral events were organised in 46 locations across the city, including libraries, universities and theatres. The Festival totalled 500 events to understand and celebrate Invention and marked three important anniversaries: 500 years since Leonardo da Vinci’s death, 50 years since the first Moon landing and 150 years since the creation of Mendeleev’s Periodic Table.

The main window of the Auditorium bookshop was dedicated to National Geographic, including plush toys (Venturelli), kids' and adults' books (White Star) and National Geographic magazines (Gedi). During the Festival, the team took the opportunity to shoot 20 interviews with scientists, researchers and explorers. This content will support Italy's Planet or Plastic? campaign and enable production of thematic fillers for future stunts (such as Women of Impact and Cosmos).
